House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced today that she has instructed her committee chairs to begin drafting articles of impeachment for Donald J. Trump. It’s “full steam ahead” for Democrats on these proceedings and I think pretty much everyone can see the light at the end of the tunnel. She also has tipped her hand on the timeline for the actual impeachment vote telling her troops not to make any plans for the week before Christmas.
All things being equal it looks like the vote in the House could come as soon as December 21st or 22nd. This whole saga is about to get very real and then almost immediately cemented in the annals of U.S. history. We are off to the races boys and girls and our democracy has “get woke” sooner rather than later. There are some who griping that House Dems are pushing this too hard and feel we are rushing the process if we stick to this timeline. I do not agree.
I don’t think this process is being rushed. I think this process is actually about 3 or 4 months overdue. We should have begun impeachment proceedings immediately after the Mueller Report came out. As usual, the Dems didn’t have a solid action plan for the 11 instances of obstruction of justice that were served up on a silver platter for them by a Republican prosecutor. We then allowed Attorney General William barr to scuttle the report and its findings by delaying its release and putting his own spin on its conclusion.
We aren’t rushing this process. We’re playing catching up.
