This is Kious Jordan Kelly. This is the face of courage. Serving as an out gay nurse manager at Mount Sinai West in New York City he tested positive for COVID-19 on March 18th. He died six days later on March 24th. He is the first nursing casualty of the global pandemic and he happened also be a gay man. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and stripes…and some come in pink and rainbow.
I just wanted to take the time to honor his memory and call for a brief moment of silence as we reflect on his sacrifice and the sacrifice of all health professionals and first responders who put themselves in harms way. They are even doing so without the proper personal protection equipment, ventilators and supplies.
