Despite its name, the Grasshopper cocktail contains no insects. I know I had an imagine of bugs—mostly because there are actual cocktails out there made with insects! I bet you totally never want to try them! I first heard of the Grasshopper in the West Wing—that one scene where Zoe is being crowded by 3 white boys, with Charlie Young barging in to save Zoe’s braincells from the stupid brigade. Yeah, before all that, C.J. had ordered a Grass Hopper, but it would seem she never got her cocktail throughout the entire ordeal, and I never found out what it was. Then I heard it again–I can’t remember exactly where, but it might have been in “Interview with the Vampire”, (TV Show) which would make sense because some of the story is set in New Orleans. New Orleans—1918—is where the Grasshopper was born. The ingredients are simple: 1 part mint liqueur (crème de menthe), 1 part chocolate liqueur (Creme de Cacao), and 1 part cream. Ingredients are to be combined and shaken in a container with ice—then strained and served into a cocktail glass. But it could be fancier—how about with some mint and chip ice-cream, chocolate syrup, and garnishes such as mint leaves?
