The majority of the cities we cover have their Pride events in June, and many of them have now passed. But there are still a handful of cities that push it to July (apparently July is Disability Pride Month. I don’t think I’ve ever knew that before), August, and in the fall season. Portland and San Diego are the only 2 cities here that have their Pride events in July, and both cities celebrate it on the same days: July 19-20. Charlotte, NC is the only city to have their Pride in August, and 5 cities have until October!

Meanwhile, what is Disability Pride Month? It is an annual celebration of differing abilities that connects back to the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990, a ruling prohibiting discrimination against people with disabilities. This is a time to honor and uplift the identities, resilience and contributions of disabled people across our country. Their colors seem quite familiar, but with some differences and different meanings for each color. Red: physical disabilities. Gold: cognitive and intellectual disabilities. White: nonvisible and undiagnosed disabilities. Blue: psychiatric disabilities. Green: sensory disabilities. Black: honoring those who have died due to negligence, suicide, rebellion, illness, and eugenics.
