After having a fantastic time in San Diego, Mike and I had decided to go to Sacramento, which for me would be the second time I’ve ever been there, with the first time 4 years ago on my 21st birthday. We lucked out and had a hotel right in the Gay District; a walking distance to all of the clubs and bars. Sadly, all of the clubs were unapproachable: $10-$20 cover fees per person. I’d feel good about it IF a credit was given for drinks (however much you pay in cover should give you credits for club drinks, which are almost always overpriced anyways).
So time to hit some bars. One of places we were tying to check out was The Depot. Never happened. I was told my “murse” (man purse) was too big. Mind you, I’ve never heard problems with it before, other than a simple search at other places. Just like that, The Depot lost my business permanently. So if you scooter, bike or walk there, be sure you have basically nothing but your wallet and phone I guess. Screw them! Another bar, The Mercantile Saloon, was almost a similar experience, but the security was kind enough to hold onto my bag. Shockingly, after a minute in we quickly walked out. The saloon is cash only, and I don’t really care about carrying cash when a phone or credit card is all you need to make payments these days. In all, only 2 bars were successful in getting some money out of us that night: Roscoe’s Bar & Burgers and Jet’s. It’s worth noting both have happy hour and additional specials, but we simply weren’t there in time for them.
Nevertheless, we spent anyway. At Roscoe’s were delicious, fun cocktails or martinis to choose from, and we went for a spicy Jalapeno Margarita and a generous helping of some appetizers. Next, Jet’s at the time featured an Alice in Wonderland theme that enticed me in. A wonderous, mystic environment with drinks of the same theme to put the cherry on top. While the drinks were great in quality, their non-happy hour prices at the end of the day are just highway robbery, as they were $10 or more. I can spend a little over $10 for a handle of high quality spirits and a few bucks on quality mixtures. Certain places (I can count on one hand) have drinks as cheap as $5 or lower, and have simply turned me off to high prices for simple pleasures.
