New Data: 2025 National Survey Results

Mental health is a deeply important topic, and something that comes with unique challenges for LGBTQ+ young people. This Mental Health Awareness Month we want to highlight the real, lived realities of LGBTQ+ young people, the good, the bad, and everything in between.

The data is in. Our 2025 U.S. National Survey on the Mental Health of LGBTQ+ Young People reveals what is really going on around the country for the young people we serve. Across city and state lines, stories and experiences are shared and corroborated, revealing heartbreaking truths and a powerful call for resources and support—because every young person deserves the chance to live and thrive.

Among the many findings was this: 36% of LGBTQ+ young people seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year, including 40% of transgender and nonbinary young people. Our findings also remind us of painful intersections of oppression for young people of color. Specifically, LGBTQ+ young people of color attempted suicide at higher rates than their White peers, and nearly a third (32%) also experienced racial or ethnic discrimination, in addition to anti-LGBTQ+ discrimination.
