Cali Squeeze: SLO vs. Firestone Walker — What’s Actually Different?

The last time I picked up a Cali Squeeze variety pack, it was the classic trio: Blood Orange, POG (Passion Fruit, Orange, Guava), and Mango. Back then, the brand lived under SLO Brewing Company, and those cans were hazy, juicy, and unapologetically fruit‑forward. Fast‑forward to today and Cali Squeeze now sits under Firestone Walker—but confusingly, you can still find Cali Squeeze cans labeled under both SLO and Firestone Walker. Same name, same vibe… so what’s the difference?

The flavors aren’t the same anymore
The original Blood Orange is the one flavor that tastes almost identical across both versions. But that’s where the overlap ends.

– SLO Brewing’s lineup leaned hazy, pulpy, and tropical—POG especially had that thick, smoothie‑adjacent fruitiness.
– Firestone Walker’s lineup swaps in new flavors: Passion Fruit (POG‑adjacent but without the orange and guava), Peach Pomegranate, and Raspberry Lime.

These aren’t just rebrands—they’re genuinely different recipes. The vibe has shifted too. This part is based on memory (because I don’t have any SLO cans left to do a side‑by‑side), but the difference is noticeable:

SLO’s Version

– SLO Brewing’s Cali Squeeze: hazier, juicier, more “craft‑beer‑meets-fruit-purée.”
– Firestone Walker’s Cali Squeeze: clearer, crisper, and more refined—almost like they tuned the flavors for a broader, more casual drinker.

It’s not better or worse, just a different personality. SLO’s version felt like a beach bonfire with queer friends and a Bluetooth speaker. Firestone Walker’s feels more like a sunny patio at a brewery where someone’s dog is wearing a bandana. So which one should you grab? If you loved the original haze‑bomb fruit blends, the SLO cans (when you can find them) will scratch that itch. If you want something cleaner, brighter, and easier to drink in multiples, Firestone Walker’s lineup is probably your match.
