Popeyes non-homophobic chicken sandwhich!

I don’t praise fast food, and at the very least, we should all limit our consumption of it. Nevertheless, if you inevitably find yourself craving something, like a chicken sandwhich, you may have been at the mercy of Chick-fil-hAte. Their sandwich has been virtually unchallenged for many years, and ever since I was old enough (12) to utilize the internet, I’ve learned about their hateful chicken, and vowed to never spend another penny there.

Then, Popeyes, Wendy’s, and KFC rolled out their chicken sandwiches back in 2019/2020 (McDonald’s joined the bandwagon just today), sparking a chicken sandwich war. Many, including me, thought, “Hey, these are non-homophobic chicken sandwiches!”. It’s worth noting that Chick-fil-A’s legacy of hate has somewhat changed in the last couple of years, but Chick-fil-A better be giving apologetic gift cards and renaming itself Chick-fil-gAy during Pride month before I’m convinced.

Nevertheless, their reputation is still damaged, with their wimpy chicken sandwich also dethroned by Wendy’s, Popeyes, and KFC. Surprisingly, I’ve never actually tried these chicken sandwiches, and only did so a few days ago (thanks to some handy T-Mobile coupons). Popeyes has two chicken sandwiches: Regular and spicy. I tried both. I always prefer spicier, even if it’s not nearly enough to make me break a sweat. The spicy chicken variant was very flavorful, moist (beyond the breading), and thick. Unfortunately, this sandwich packs 200 more calories than the normal sandwich for a total of 700 (due to thicker breading and consequently, more oils), boo!

The normal chicken sandwich is 500 calories, but beware, that’s only if opt to remove the mayonnaise, which adds 200 more calories (it’s also all or nothing when you try to modify the sandwich via the app). It’s not present on the spicy chicken variant, so I see absolutely no reason to accept the extra calories. Unfortunately, Popeyes chicken sandwich is nutritionally similar to Chick-fil-A’s. The sodium content sits at around 1400; you’ll probably reduce that number further by removing the pickles. As such, these sandwiches should absolutely be limited, if you value your health.
